Middle Park is an inner suburb in Melbourne, 4km south of the CBD in the local government area of the City of Port Phillip. It has a population of over 4,000.

History

The suburb gets its name due to it being between Port Phillip and Albert Park Lake, which lies halfway across the western area of the Albert Park Reserve.

A railway line was opened between Melbourne and St. Kilda in 1857. In 1875, Canterbury Road, the road beside the railway line was made and in 1979, the foreshore road Beaconsfield Parade was made.

In the 1800s, the Middle Park railway station opened and land was released in the area for housing. In 1887, a primary school was opened in Middle Park and by 1891, it had over 600 pupils.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to some of the best preserved Victoria architecture in Melbourne. The main shopping area in Middle Park is along Armstrong Street.
