Laverton is a suburb in Melbourne in the local government areas of the City of Hobsons Bay and the City of Wyndham. 17km southwest of the CBD, it has a population of over 4,000.

History

In 1886, sale of land in the Laverton area was promoted by Staples Wise and Company. In the same year, Laverton Station was the first station that opened beyond Newport on the way to Geelong. The post office opened in 1888. It’s connected to Werribee railway line at Aircraft station and Laverton station.

The suburb is well known for having very hot summers, recording temperatures higher than Melbourne itself.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to the state baseball stadium. The baseball stadium hosts many national events every year. Laverton also has an Australian rules football team that competes in the Western Region Football League.

The suburb has three primary schools and a high school.
