The suburb of Broadmeadows is located within the City of Hume local government area. It is only 16km north of Melbourne’s CBD. Broadmeadows is home to the Ford Factory and other industries. The region has a population of over 10,000 people.

History

The first European settlers in the area where pastoralist who arrived in the 1840s and the centre of the town moved when the railway arrived in 1872. The area was also a reception and training camp for the AIF during the First and Second World Wars.
Large scale housing was developed in the area between 1949 and 1979. Along with the region’s close proximity to Melbourne, this expanded the population and turned Broadmeadows into a busy suburb.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb has 4 primary schools, 3 secondary campuses, and a special development school. Great transport links into the area are provided by the centrally located Metro and mainline railway connections.

With only around half of the population being born in Australia, the area has a rich and diverse ethnic culture. Residents include Filipino, Arab, Turkish, Assyrian, Vietnamese, and Italian communities.
