Brighton East is a great family suburb of Victoria with an estimated population of 15,800. It is 11 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and has a nearby beach.

History

The area of Brighton East was called Little Brighton in the 1840s.Some Catholic settlers opened a school in 1848. By the 1880s, the town was made up of market gardens and farms.

Between 1922 and 1928, lots of houses were built on the land. It wasn’t until the 1930s when all the streets in Brighton East were laid out.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Brighton East has lots of spacious parks including Denby Park. It is one of Victoria’s biggest parks. There are some great jogging tracks along Beach Road, as well as picnic areas and lakes.

The town is close to some excellent schools, shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for great nightlife and a mix of bars and clubs, nearby Brighton is the answer.
