Bayswater has a population of 11,240. It is a suburb of Melbourne. The suburb is located 29km to the east of the city’s central business district.

History

The first settlers arrived in Bayswater in the 1860s. Many of them traced their origins to Germany. At first, the suburb was part of Scoresby North and, later, Macauley.

More Germans arrived in Bayswater after World War II. These new arrivals had just been released from the Tatura Internment Camp. They provided Bayswater with a Community Centre, a Retirement Village, and a Nursing Home.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bayswater is home to many parks and reserves. Bayswater Park is the best known of these. Next to Bayswater Park is a playground that the locals call the Train Park. The Train Park is famous for housing a disused steam engine. The train has been made safe for children to play on.

Shoppers in Bayswater enjoy many several and shopping centres. These include Mountain High Plaza.
