Barwon Heads is a picturesque coastal town which sits on the west bank of the mouth of the Barwon River. It is a part of the Bellarine Peninsula and is home to a population of over 3,500 people.

History

Barwon Heads was first surveyed as early as 1827 but didn’t develop until after its first post office was opened in 1889. In its early years, the town was built on a thriving fishing industry and in the 20s it became a popular holiday resort providing a seaside retreat for rich Melbourne families.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Barwon Heads is still a popular destination for tourists who flock to the town in summer for its beaches and the famous Barwon Heads Golf Club.

Tourism and development in the area have increased since the town became the main location for the popular TV show ‘SeaChange’ which first aired in 1998.
