No. As there are no electronics or aerators, the power consumption is minimal.
No. A sand filter only requires an annual service. Not like aerated mechanical treatment systems which do require quarterly servicing. This will save you a considerable amount of money.
Most products will have "Septic Safe" shown on their labelling if they are appropriate to use in a septic system. As with any septic system, it is the bacterial micro-organisms in the system that provides the treatment process. No harsh chemicals or bleaches should be used as these are anti-bacteria and made to kill bacteria. No fats or oils should be allowed into the system as these can clog and damage the treatment process.
