Established in 1813, Longford is a town in Tasmania. Longford sits in the northern midlands and is 145m above sea level. It has a population of over 4,200 people. The Panninher clan of the North Midlands Nation are the original inhabitants of the land.

History

European settlers first passed through Longford in 1806. By 1807, more settlers arrived, and Longford became known for its agricultural trade. At this point, the town was called Latour. In 1833, Longford changed its name to the name we know today.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Longford boasts many historic and heritage buildings. These buildings were all constructed between 1830 and 1850. These buildings include the Christ Church, Queen’s Arms Hotel, and more.

Racing fans love the Longford Racecourse, which is one of the oldest racecourses in Australia. Every year on New Year’s Day, the Longford Racecourse hosts the Elders Webster Longford Cup.
