Welcome to Grindelwald, TAS

The small town of Grindelwald north of Launceston developed by the Dutch Immigrant Tasmania Roelf Vos after he sold his supermarket business to Woolworths. Built around an artificial lake, it is within the Tamar Valley Resort area and has a population of fewer than 1,000 people.

History

The town was built in the Swiss architectural style and work in the area began as late as the 1980s with the resort opening in 1989. The developer Mike Dean announced in 2013 that the area was to become the site for a 103 million dollar project involving eco-tourism.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The resort is the final stop for the TAS Gas cycle challenge that takes place on the Island every year. The chocolate box village style of the resort is a major attraction in the area and provides everything from speciality dining and shops to Chateau accommodation and 2 golf courses.
