History

The town developed around Hobart’s International Airport and the Cambridge Aerodrome. It has been an important site for air travel in Tasmania since opening.

In 1934, the Federal Government bought 190 acres of farmland to establish the aerodrome centre. It was Hobart’s main airport until the opening of the international terminal in 1956.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, visitors to the aerodrome can enjoy day trips and scenic flights. These take in views of Hobart and beyond to the state’s unspoilt south-west.

The recent development of an industrial area in Cambridge has lead to an increase in trade and business to the area. There is also a school and shopping centre in the town.
