Bridgewater is a mainly residential area in the northern suburbs of Hobart in Tasmania.

History

The area lies 20 kilometres away from Hobart’s CBD. Many people moved to the town in the 1970s as part of a Government sponsored housing project. The majority of homes in the town date back to that era.

People travelling from the north into the city pass through Bridgewater on their way. The town used to have a railway station used by commuters.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town has a number of retail outlets, restaurants and fast food premises. Two shopping centres provide a wide choice of shops, a supermarket, pharmacy, and other amenities.

Bridgewater has its own primary and high school. It is home to the soccer club Derwent United.
