FAQs

  • Can I have Liposuction Instead of a Tummy Tuck?

If you have never had children, are fit and healthy and close to your ideal weight, the answer here will be "yes". If you have had children however, you will find that your problems are not limited to a protuberant tummy (pot belly), but that you also have problems of excess skin, loss of skin elasticity and stretch marks. In this case performing liposuction would remove the excess fat from the area, but the skin will not bounce back and you will be left with sagging tissue in its

  • How long will my breast implants last and will they need to be replaced?

Nobody can really honestly say exactly how long a breast implant will last. The main reason to have to remove an implant is leakage of the implant or capsular contracture, which is scar tissue contracture around the implant causing distortion of the implant shape & surrounding breast tissue. Dr McGovern uses Naurelle implants which are the dearest and the best on the market. He has been using these same cohesive gel implants since 1997 & to this date has not had to replace any because of age.

  • Can you reduce my very large breasts to an A/B cup size?

The aim of breast reduction surgery is to reduce the size of the breast to eliminate the associated problems; and to improve the shape and position of the breast. It is imperative that your new breast size in keeping with the rest of you. Our aim is to have you in proportion. In most cases breast reduction is performed on lager women, as in most cases, these are the women with larger breasts. Most women are reduced to a C or D cup breast size following surgery, depending on the individual.

  • Will Medicare and/or my private health fund cover any of the costs of breast lift surgery (Mastopexy)?

The answer to this is yes, but only if the procedure is done more than 1 year, but less than 7 years from the end of your last pregnancy. Pedantic, but that's the Medicare ruling. If this is confusing to you, call us on our free-call number 18000 80001, we're here to help you.

  • Will having Blepharoplasty get rid of my crow's feet?

No, crow's feet are dynamic lines at the side of the eyes caused by repeated muscle movement - smiling in this case. These lines are best treated with muscle relaxants. Eyelid surgery removes excess lid skin, it does not remove crows feet.

  • How can I help minimize the scarring after an arm lift (Brachioplasty)?

The longer you limit the movements of your arms and wear the support garment provided after upper arm reduction surgery, the better scar quality you can expect. Supporting your scar with surgical tape (Micropore) for the first 4 months will greatly reduce the risk of wide spread scars.

  • How long will the results of my facelift last?

You will continue to age from the moment you have had surgery at exactly the rate that you did pre-surgery if you continue with the same habits. However you will always have the advantage that your facelift surgery has afforded you. Many factors can accelerate the aging process including sun exposure, smoking, poor nutrition, stress, certain medications, alcohol consumption and poor skin care routine. You should consider all these factors.

  • How much fat can be removed?

There is a limit to how much fat can safely be removed in one procedure, three to four litres. If you require large amounts of fat to be removed you may require: - More than one procedure - An overnight stay in hospital - An autologous blood donation.(donating your own blood)

  • Can Liposuction help me lose weight?

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure; rather it is for those stubborn, often genetically inherited areas of stubborn fatty deposits. These are usually the classic, "saddle bags" of the thighs, or around the ankle or knees, thighs, hips and under the chin. They are often exercise and diet resistant and the best candidates for this procedure and those women and men who are at an ideal weight and who just want to remove those stubborn areas.

  • How long do I have to wait after my last child before I can have surgery?

As long as you have stopped lactating, you are at least 12 months after the birth of your most recent child & you are at your ideal weight you can have surgery. It is important to realise that if you are still carrying excess post pregnancy weight, & we go ahead & perform the Abdominoplasty, you will then find that in months to come you will be left with loose excess skin as a result of the continual weight loss. This is not an ideal situation & will result in you being unhappy with the outcome.
